Head Lifeguard

Hourly salary: $22.59 - $23.49

About the role

Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, this position will assist in the supervision and management of the general operation of the aquatics division, while performing responsibilities of a lifeguard. The incumbent will assist in supervision and scheduling of lifeguards and other pool employees; assist in supervising swim classes and may conduct all levels of swimming classes; assist in conducting and participating in various training sessions; administer First Aid, CPR and perform lifesaving activities. The Head Lifeguard also makes reports on attendance and the activities of the swimming pool; and maintains program equipment, files, and records.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and schedule lifeguards and other pool employees
• Assist in supervising swim classes and conduct all levels of swimming classes
• Conduct and participate in various training sessions
• Make reports on attendance and pool activities
• Maintain program equipment, files, and records

Requirements

• One (1) year experience as a lifeguard and/or water safety instructor
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of submitting application
• Must possess the following current and valid American Red Cross certificates (must be attached to the employment application at time of filing):
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Community First Aid
  • Lifeguard Training Certificate
  • Water Safety Instructor Certificate

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of professional lifesaving standards
• Physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform First Aid, CPR, and other related lifesaving activities
• Ability to actively perform safety duties, safeguarding individuals, public, and property
• Ability to effectively interact with City staff, volunteers, and the public; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable

Schedule

This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time position with working hours assigned at the discretion of the Recreation & Community Services Department. Candidates must be able to work all assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or occasional weekends. Employee shall work up to 20 hours per week, limited to 960 hours per fiscal year.
