Head Custodian (NYS HELPS)

Responsibilities

• Assigns custodians, cleaners, and other maintenance personnel to various tasks and supervises their work.
• Receives and responds to complaints, work requests, and special requests from building occupants.
• Conducts periodic inspections of custodial activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with established standards and regulations.
• Supervises and assists with the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, and other walkways.
• Performs minor repairs to building equipment and fixtures, including lockers, window shades, and door checks.
• Oversees the cleaning and maintenance of blackboards, walls, lockers, and other building surfaces, as well as the disposal of waste and recyclable materials.
• Requisitions, receives, inventories, and distributes custodial and maintenance supplies, including cleaning products, light bulbs, paper products, and soap.
• Maintains records and prepares reports related to supplies, maintenance activities, and custodial operations.
• Participates in custodial and maintenance work as needed to ensure building cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency.
• May be responsible for ensuring the safety of students entering and exiting school buses.

Requirements

• Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to supervise, train, and direct custodial and maintenance staff.
• Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and respond effectively to building needs.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
• Working knowledge of minor building maintenance and repair techniques.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and the public.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and snow removal activities.

Pay

$51,875 - $62,250
