Representative Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise custodial personnel and coordinate the custodial care of the facility.
- Organize the overall work responsibilities and train custodial personnel in the appropriate performance or required tasks associated with cleaning and maintaining the environment of the facility.
- Cookise and coordinate and/or perform custodial and preventative maintenance duties in all areas/locations of the District.
- Maintain woodwork, walls, furniture, and windows using approved equipment and cleaning products.
- Maintain carpeting and floors using manual and power equipment.
- Climb and maintain multilevel stairwells; climb a ladder or steps to complete tasks.
- Keep equipment and supplies in order; maintain an inventory of supplies; restock and request/order supplies when needed.
- Work with chemicals using protective equipment as required to maintain facilities.
- Arrange furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparation for meetings, activities, and events.
- Move furnishings as required for routine and major cleaning.
- Operate small equipment, common hand tools, and machinery with care in performing assigned cleaning tasks.
- Maintain security and accountability for keys, alarm codes, equipment, and supplies.
- Efficiently perform a variety of cleaning duties as assigned.
- Inspect facility and assess work performed by custodial personnel to ensure offices, building, and grounds are well maintained and cleaned.
- Maintain supplies and equipment to ensure availability for routine needs.
- Assume the primary role in operating specialized machinery and equipment in performing assigned tasks.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns to resolve safety issues and maintain a functioning educational work environment.
- Report damaged structures and equipment to appropriate supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- Minimum of three years’ general custodial duties or related field.
- Desire to learn the trade and further knowledge through off-duty study and trade school/courses.
- Able to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding.
- Able to lift and /or carry heavy objects (up to 35 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet).
- Willing to work in undesirable locations/conditions.
- Able to follow both written and oral instructions and carry out assignments on time.
- Able to work well with others.
- Valid Georgia Motor Vehicle operator’s license with endorsements compatible with assigned duties of Cherokee County Board of Education.
