Head Custodian - Little Mountain Elementary

Centrally located on Interstate 94 less than 25 miles northwest of Maple Grove and 30 miles southeast of Saint Cloud, Monticello is home to five brick-and-mortar schools and two nature-based facilities serving more than 4,000 students annually. Monticello consistently ranks in the top 50 school districts in the state and performs above the state average in graduation rates, test scores, and early college opportunities.

About the role

Provide custodial support, advanced mechanical repairs, and leadership skills for the School District to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy learning environment for students and staff.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Full-time position with immediate opening

Responsibilities

• Provide work direction for custodial staff at the building site; coordinate time-off requests and obtain substitutes when required.
• Oversee energy management systems and safety issues at the building site; comply with all district policies regarding asbestos, right-to-know, and air quality.
• Assist the Building and Grounds Director with supervising and working with outside contractors.
• Perform all general maintenance of the building and grounds.
• Maintain all equipment and outdoor grounds, including parking lots, sidewalks, doors in winter, and lawn/landscaping in summer.
• Order materials and supplies; maintain inventory.
• Assist the Building and Grounds Director with the building maintenance budget and record keeping.
• Collaborate with administrative staff, teachers, cooks, building staff, community education, other custodians, and community members.
• Maintain confidentiality of information about students, families, and staff.
• Work effectively with diverse students and families.
• Lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally lift 75–100 pounds.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• First-class (c) boiler license required.
• Valid Minnesota driver’s license required.
• Previous lead supervisory custodial experience preferred or other related experience required.
• Previous experience in an education setting preferred.

Pay

Hourly rate: $25.53 – $31.91 based on experience and certification (Custodial & Maintenance Master Agreement, July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2027).
