About the Role

Working leader responsible for coordinating and monitoring custodial staff and services at an assigned campus. Ensures high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in building operations and grounds while adhering to federal, state, and district policies.

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with campus administration to establish and follow routine cleaning schedules and maintenance procedures.
  • Perform routine cleaning duties as part of the custodial team.
  • Implement and maintain schedules for custodial care, maintenance, and repairs; arrange for substitute custodians as needed.
  • Conduct regular inspections of campus buildings and facilities, including HVAC systems, to regulate temperatures and ensure economical usage of utilities.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as painting, grease trap cleaning, mounting instructional boards, and maintaining projection equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness of boiler rooms; report malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions; report major repair needs that are not correctable.
  • Direct and assist with floor cleaning/refinishing, moving furniture, inventory, and setting up facilities for school events.
  • Oversee procedures for securing, checking, and safeguarding facilities; ensure exit doors are operational during occupancy hours.
  • Follow safety procedures and train staff on proper use of tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Process maintenance requests, order supplies, maintain inventory records, and monitor the campus custodial budget.
  • Direct and monitor custodial staff; provide input for performance appraisals and participate in staff selection and training.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets and demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required.
  • Adhere to district policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Three years of verifiable custodial services experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English.
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy objects.
  • Valid Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; must be insurable by district auto liability insurance.
  • Subject to district drug and alcohol testing policy.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift 20–50 pounds; infrequently lift over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Climb ladders up to 8 feet unassisted and higher with assistance.
  • Work under all weather conditions.
  • Extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting.
  • Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials and in potentially hazardous environments.
  • Adaptability to work shift schedules or hours outside regular assignments, including after-hours emergencies.
