About the role
Serve as a Bus Driver/Sub Bus Driver for a school bus as required by the principal. Maintain all qualifications prescribed by the State Board of Education and keep appropriate bus-driver certification current.
Responsibilities
- Follow all Wayne County Public Schools rules, policies, and procedures, plus state and federal regulations for school facilities.
- Scrub, dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, wax, and polish floors in rooms, hallways, and closets.
- Wash windows, blinds, woodwork, walls, and other surfaces.
- Scrub and clean restrooms; replenish tissue, towels, soap, and supplies in restrooms, kitchens, and classrooms.
- Empty wastebaskets and trash receptacles; collect paper or trash in buildings and on school grounds.
- Lock/unlock buildings as requested; secure or assist in securing buildings at night.
- Move, arrange, or set up equipment, supplies, or furniture as directed.
- Make minor repairs to furniture or facilities; report major damages or needed repairs to supervisor.
- Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Maintain adequate on-site supplies and materials.
- Clean and perform minor repairs/adjustments to heating and air-conditioning equipment; change filters.
- Keep steps, walkways, and parking lots free of ice, snow, or hazardous materials.
- Participate in scheduled training workshops and apply new knowledge/skills in daily work.
- Perform other cleaning or maintenance tasks as requested by the Principal or Department Administrator.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
- Functional knowledge of custodial tools, materials, cleaning agents, and methods.
- Willingness to learn correct use of mechanical equipment in school buildings.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions accurately.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and the public.
- Ability to accept constructive criticism.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull 75 pounds, and stand/walk 100 % of the time without fatigue.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
