Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Recruits and retains high achieving student-athletes.
- Buils relationships with players to provide mentorship, guidance, and support both on and off the water.
- Works to enhance the student-athlete experience through training, competition, and leadership development.
- Collaborates with the athletics trainer to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants.
- Adheres to NCAA rules and compliance.
- Manages the team budget including recruitment, equipment, travel, uniforms, and supplies.
- Oversees team travel arrangements and scheduling.
- Recruits, hires, and supervises assistant coaches.
- Contributes ideas, input, and support to the Union Athletics Department.
- Sets up for and participates in program innovation.
- Collaborates with campus stakeholders, particularly College Relations, to coordinate fundraising and alumni outreach.
- Builds strong relationships with alumni, campus partners and the broader community.
- Connects student-athletes with academic and professional resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience coaching crew or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
- Master’s degree and playing experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
- Experience in leading, motivating and providing guidance to high achieving and competitive student-athletes.
- Experience in recruiting and successfully identifying talented prospective student-athletes who can thrive in a rigorous academic environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends is required.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 30 lbs.) and stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time.
- A valid New York State driver’s license is required.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community, while promoting a sense of belonging among students, alumni, faculty, and staff colleagues.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $68,000 to $73,000. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
