Head Coach, Track and Field/Cross Country

About the Role

This position is responsible for all aspects of developing a competitive women’s and men’s cross country/track and field program in the Big Sky Conference. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, and retaining student-athletes; managing daily administrative duties of the program; fundraising and public relations; supervising assistants; and adhering to all rules and regulations of the university, NCAA, and Big Sky.

Responsibilities

• Coach and develop student-athletes in cross country and track and field.
• Recruit and retain competitive student-athletes for the program.
• Manage daily administrative duties of the program.
• Engage in fundraising and public relations efforts.
• Supervise assistant coaches and support staff.
• Ensure compliance with university, NCAA, and Big Sky Conference rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum five years of collegiate coaching, club coaching, or collegiate competition experience.
• Excellent professional and interpersonal communication skills.
• Commitment to the total welfare of female and male student-athletes.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a successful Division I men’s and women’s cross-country and track and field program both academically and athletically.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience coaching both men and women.
• Experience as a head coach at the NCAA Division I level, coaching at multiple levels, or program-building experience.
• Ties to the Northwest and West Coast Junior Colleges.
• Strong commitment to student-athlete welfare and development.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay

The starting annual salary for this position will be between $61,620 and $65,000 but may be negotiated above this range based on experience, skills, knowledge, market parity, internal equity, and department budget. New employees typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band.
