Head Coach Girls Wrestling - Newport High School 2026-27

About the Role

The Head Coach is responsible for ensuring that all assistants (contracted or volunteer), as well as themselves, know and adhere to the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA), KINGCO Conference, and Bellevue School District policies. The role emphasizes leadership, program organization, and commitment to equity and cultural competency within the district’s athletic programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and supervision for the entire program at all levels.
• Organize the program to align with district and high school philosophy, goals, and objectives.
• Promote good sportsmanship and positive public relations within the school and community.
• Follow all rules, policies, and procedures of the League, District, and school.
• Prepare public information releases regarding the sport.
• Comply with the WIAA coaching clock hour program.
• Stay updated on new knowledge, ideas, and techniques related to the sport.
• Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling events (non-league contests and tournaments).
• Draft and submit a budget for the sport, and manage expenditures and revenues.
• Plan and supervise practice sessions, including locker room supervision.
• Maintain records as required by the Athletic Director and/or principal.
• Attend all district and league meetings pertaining to the sport.
• Ensure the general health, welfare, and safety of athletes.
• Communicate safety procedures to assistant coaches, athletes, and parents.
• Administer a student interest survey/evaluation at the end of the season and provide results to the Athletic Director.
• Write an annual report evaluating the program and recommending improvements.
• Conduct and file Assistant Coach Evaluations.
• Assign duties to assistant coaches (volunteer and contracted) and ensure compliance with rules, procedures, and policies.
• Manage the upkeep, protection, distribution, collection, and inventory of all equipment.
• Ensure appropriate use of school facilities and property.
• Organize, direct, and supervise practice sessions and dressing room facilities.
• Accompany the team on all travel (in-state and out-of-state) and adhere to travel rules.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Hold a current first aid and CPR card (proof required prior to job offer).

Physical Requirements

• Positions in this role typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• May work outdoors in inclement weather.
• Requires physical mobility to navigate a school campus, including stairs and indoor/outdoor areas.

Pay

$7,964 for the season. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to and is directly supervised by the Athletic Director.
