About the role

The Head Cashier is responsible for successful operation of the front end by cashiering, training, directing and monitoring cashiers, providing World Class Customer Service, and supporting overall store operations.

Responsibilities

• Providing World Class Customer Service and a positive customer experience as the number one priority.
• Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence and adhering to all policies.
• Training all cashiers and ensuring they:
  • Communicate about the {N}Power program with customers.
  • Notify customers that $.05 is donated to the local food bank for every transaction using a reusable bag.
  • Educate customers on the “Nutrient to Know About.”
  • Promote store seminars and events.
• Completing the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and cashier close‑out responsibilities.
• Issuing and verifying cash drawers.
• Handling returns and overrides at the front end.
• Addressing customer complaints appropriately.
• Ensuring front‑end sets are full and well‑maintained.
• Overseeing completion of the front‑end task list daily.
• Maintaining all register binders.
• Directing cashiers to tasks during slow periods at the register.
• General cashiering and checkout duties, including running a cash register, bagging/boxing groceries, and providing carry‑out service.
• Monitoring, assigning, and performing cart checks.
• Answering the telephone.
• Assisting in managing special orders.
• Monitoring, assigning, and grinding nut butters.
• Learning product locations in all departments to assist customers.
• Participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock as needed.
• Working a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Working five days (40 hours) per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
• Providing limited Manager‑on‑Duty coverage (not the overall store manager).
• Being “hands‑on” and doing whatever it takes to get the job done and help the company thrive.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
• Retail experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
• 1 year of cashiering experience preferred.
• 1 year of supervising others preferred.
• Ability to pass food‑safety training courses and/or certifications required by law, and to keep certifications current.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
• Sense of urgency in completing tasks.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Highly organized with great attention to detail.
• Ability to take direction and follow through.
• Cashier training and ability to count currency.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
