Head Boys Basketball Coach

About the Role

This person will work closely with assistant coaches to develop and implement a coaching plan, oversee specific aspects of practice based on assigned skills, and supervise students until they are picked up from practice and/or meets.

Responsibilities

• Further the mission of Salida del Sol Academy.
• Ensure all interested players have submitted a registration packet (including up-to-date physical) before they begin practicing.
• Communicate practice times to parents and athletes.
• Create and communicate expectations for athletes, both on and off the playing field/court (e.g., consequences for missing practices, not following the school code of conduct, or failing to maintain the required GPA).
• Communicate game schedules and information to parents and athletes in advance (in coordination with the Athletic Director).
• Organize and supervise game-day operations.
• Assist with supervision at school activities and events.
• Attend all scheduled events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification (can be completed upon hire).
• Prior coaching experience.
• Title IX training (can be completed upon hire).
• Mandatory Reporter Training (can be completed upon hire).
• Bilingual skills (Spanish & English) desired.

Skills

• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving ability and good judgment.
• Ability to interact appropriately with children of different ages.
• Experience coaching youth sports desired.
• Prefers leadership situations that address the social, emotional, psychological, and academic needs of students.
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment with flexibility, conflict resolution skills, and a tolerance for long hours.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
• Visual, auditory, and ambulatory acuity important.
• Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
• Numerous distractions and a fast-paced environment.

Pay

Beginning pay: $1,300 per season.
