About The Role
The HDD Locator is responsible for tracking and guiding the drill head during directional drilling operations. This position works closely with the Foreman and Operator to maintain bore alignment, verify utility clearances, and prevent damage to underground facilities.
Responsibilities
- Operate electronic locating equipment to monitor drill head location, depth, and alignment.
- Guide drilling operations by communicating bore path corrections to the Operator.
- Review project drawings, utility maps, and bore plans.
- Verify existing utility locations through potholing and visual confirmation.
- Monitor bore progress and document critical bore information.
- Assist with excavation of entry pits, exit pits, and potholes.
- Support restoration activities following project completion.
- Maintain awareness of underground conflicts and stop work if conditions are unsafe.
- Assist in conducting pre-job safety planning and hazard assessments.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety requirements.
- Properly use and store drilling fluids and related materials.
- Train and assist Apprentices in field operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience using HDD locating systems preferred.
- Knowledge of utility locating, underground construction, and damage prevention practices.
- Ability to read and interpret utility plans and construction drawings.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license required.
- OSHA 10 preferred.
- Utility locating certification preferred.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
