Position Summary
The Horizontal Directional Drill Foreman oversees a directional drill crew working on job sites, ensuring work complies with installation and safety standards. Responsibilities include managing safety, compliance, efficiency, cost management, and innovation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for operating various equipment including Directional Drills (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch) and locators.
- Oversees the upkeep and maintenance of equipment.
- Experience drilling in standard and high-risk areas.
- Possesses knowledge of utility depths and placement.
- Familiar with construction practices and equipment, including routine service and maintenance.
- Supervises daily operations according to job specifications and customer requirements, monitoring for safety conditions and issues.
- Ensures all work is compliant with installation standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Valid Class A CDL
- Proficient knowledge of DCI/Subsite locating equipment, utility installation techniques, and standards.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience operating a directional drill (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch).
- A minimum of 2 years' utility construction experience.
- Strong interpersonal and team-oriented skills.
- Leadership experience with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, tools, and equipment (up to 50 pounds or more).
- Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
- Endurance to perform physical tasks throughout the workday, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Agility and flexibility to navigate construction sites and access work areas, including climbing ladders and scaffolding.
- Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, and tunnels.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
