Hazardous Waste Technician Port Hueneme California (2026)

About the Role

Position requires constant physical activity in a dynamic, fast-paced, and physically challenging work environment. Approximately 70% of tasking is outdoors. The role supports Operations Division and ASC metrics, complies with ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements, and prioritizes safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and package all hazardous waste, including legal classification, required packaging, and proper labeling of containers.
• Maintain a high level of detail and quality control for highly regulated USAP hazardous wastes.
• Follow ACA, EPA, NRC, IMDG, DOT, and State rules and regulations for hazardous waste shipping.
• Complete all documentation and tracking with a high degree of accuracy.
• Perform qualitative testing on items (e.g., pH testing, flash point testing).
• Operate an articulating forklift safely.
• Conduct quality checks on shipping containers and correct discrepancies immediately.
• Assist the Solid Waste Department as needed, including manual labor such as shoveling for extended periods.
• Use tools such as drum dollies, cargo straps, banding, shovels, pallet jacks, and power tools.
• Engage in constant physical activity, including bending, lifting and carrying 50–70 lbs, reaching, and gripping.
• Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities of the Waste Department.
• Work effectively in a team with diverse personalities, displaying self-motivation and a positive attitude.
• Perform other duties as required to support ASC goals and contractual commitments.

Requirements

• College degree (2 additional years of experience may substitute).
• Strong computer software experience.
• Able to lift 50 pounds consistently and wear a respirator.
• Valid Driver’s License and Passport.
• Able to stand for up to 12 hours daily.
• Must pass a physical qualification assessment.
• Able to deploy to Antarctica for the length of the contract.
• US citizenship or permanent residency required.
• Must successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of Hazardous Materials shipping/characterization or reporting experience, or 2 years of Environmental remediation.
• 1 year of High School Chemistry or equivalent, or 1 quarter of college General Chemistry.
• College degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
• Current OSHA HazWOPER 40-Hour certification.
• Familiarity with power tools and machinery.
• Equipment operating experience.
