Harold Washington College Federal Work Study Student- TRIO Student Support Services Peer Mentor

Essential Duties

• Advises, guides, and serves as a role model for other TRIO SSS Students.
• Explains CCC system to project participants; helps students become aware of College resources.
• Advocates for mentee as necessary.
• Attends mentor training sessions as required.
• Makes contact with assigned mentee(s) to advise twice a month.
• Assists with setting goals and works toward accomplishing each.
• Creates student files and assists with documentation of services.
• Handles confidential student information in adherence with FERPA guidelines.
• Answers inquiries via email, phone, and Zoom.
• Meets with assigned mentee(s) to advise twice a month.

Qualifications

• Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States.
• Must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre-credit or credit classes.
• Must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate.
• Must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students).
• Must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions.
• Must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago.
• All positions are “employment at-will”.
• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hour pre-credit or credit classes.
• Must be a part of the Students Financial Aid Program and approved for Federal Work Study.
• Must successfully pass CCC hiring process (Including criminal background check & drug screening if “sensitive’ responsibilities are in the job description).
• Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as City Colleges of Chicago representative.
• Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.

Salary Range: $17.00 Per Hour
