Harness & Interconnect Mechanical Engineer II
This position is located in Huntsville, AL; Andover, MA; or Tucson, AZ and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, and an active and existing security clearance is required after day one.
About the Role
The Precision Control Actuation Systems (PCAS) department is part of the Hardware Engineering Organization and comprises approximately 185 engineers. Our team specializes in Control Actuation Systems (CAS), Mechanism Design and Development, and Harness and Interconnect (H&I) Design and Development. The PCAS department supports the product lifecycle from concept through production.
Responsibilities
- Identify and derive system requirements.
- Define mechanical outline and construction details, connector selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings.
- Oversee electrical layout and perform first-order electrical analysis.
- Own the final technical data package.
- Meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product.
- Interact with senior personnel on significant technical matters, coordinating between cross-functional organizations and physical locations.
- Develop technical solutions to complex problems related to the entire product lifecycle, including proposal, design, manufacture, integration, and test of electronics and interconnect packaging solutions for multiple missile programs.
- Provide expertise in a wide range of tasks, sometimes outside the scope of traditional design responsibilities.

You will grow your understanding of the aerospace industry and apply technical theories in mechanical, electrical, and/or systems engineering to develop harness and interconnect solutions. Your contributions will be significant toward completing entire projects with limited supervision.
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the design and/or manufacturing of wire harnessing for military, aerospace, or commercial applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 or more years of experience in the design and manufacturing of flex, rigid flex, round wire, RF, and/or fiber optic harnessing for military and aerospace applications.
- Demonstrated expertise with Creo Parametric (MCAD) software and Windchill (PLM).
- Familiarity with Technical Data Package (TDP) requirements, including ASME drawing standards.
- Experience working with harness and interconnect manufacturers, including periodic travel to manufacturing facilities.
- Strong technical background with high technical aptitude.
- Experience with industry specifications such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE AS22759, J-STD-001, MIl-PRF-31032, IPC-6013, IPC-2221, or IPC-2223.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills when working with both technical and non-technical team members and customers.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Pay
The salary range for this role is $68,900 – $131,100 USD. The range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Schedule
This is an onsite role. Employees in onsite roles work primarily at the designated location. Candidates may be asked to attend select interview steps in-person at one of our office locations.
