Harm Reduction Coordinator - BFLA

About the role

BFL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting New Yorkers with disabilities in living independently in the community. We provide services through various programs, including BFLA, a supportive housing program for vulnerable populations such as disabled survivors of domestic violence, homeless disabled adults, and disabled veterans and families.

Responsibilities

  • Hold a caseload of 5-10 SPMI/MICA tenants.
  • Complete program intake and assessment of new tenants.
  • Develop, monitor, and update service plans with tenants.
  • Follow up with tenants including home visits to discuss service plan goals and benchmarks.
  • Provide individual supportive counseling to tenants.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate groups on harm reduction and smoking cessation.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to assist tenants in achieving goals.
  • Accompany tenants to court hearings and advocate for them.
  • Provide referrals for legal assistance and other services.
  • Aid tenants with ACS or prevention services requirements.
  • Complete apartment inspections, tobacco assessments, and vocational assessments.
  • Maintain tenants' ability to pay rent and utility bills.
  • Participate in staff/case conference meetings, supervision, and training.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of progress notes in case management system.
  • Comply with agency and program policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field, considered based on experience.
  • Experience in supportive counseling, harm reduction models, stages of change model, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Experience working with mental illness, substance users, domestic violence, and disability issues.
  • Excellent computer skills (PC).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, supportive housing environment.
  • Excellent language skills in American Sign Language or bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $25.07

Schedule

Full Time - Non-Exempt. Hours: 35 hours per week - Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
