About the Role
This position supports the development of transfer case, suspension, or Battery Management System (BMS) electronic control units (ECUs) through all phases of the automotive product lifecycle. The role focuses on responding to new business quotations and advanced development for these control units.
Responsibilities
- Support electrical design by collaborating with a senior engineer to create or modify electrical concepts for new requirements.
- Collaborate with mechanical, system, production, and software teams to develop a complete design proposal.
- Engage with electrical component suppliers to explore design solutions, including cost optimization for clean sheet or modified designs.
- Support hardware design and development of ECUs from concept through production, ensuring compliance with automotive quality and reliability standards.
- Provide technical representation for the electrical hardware team to customers or internal groups, presenting design status, proposals, and issue resolutions with supervisory support.
- Communicate hardware status, risks, and issues transparently to leadership, program management, and customers.
- Support design reviews (e.g., schematic reviews, DFMEA, design verification) and drive resolution of action items.
- Contribute to defining and managing hardware requirements, ensuring traceability from customer specifications to implementation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are production-ready, supporting DFM reviews and transitioning from prototype to series production.
- Test electrical designs using lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies) and create test reports with meaningful data for team review.
Skills
- Electrical design knowledge for 12V automotive systems, including power distribution, signal conditioning, protection circuitry, and grounding strategies.
- Familiarity with power electronics topologies such as H-bridge motor drivers, high-side/low-side drive circuits, BLDC motor control, buck/boost switching regulators, and linear voltage regulation.
- Basic understanding of ADC signal chains, including input filtering, reference voltage considerations, and sensor signal scaling.
- Familiarity with digital communication interfaces like CAN, SPI, and SENT.
- Experience collaborating with simulation teams on power dissipation analysis, thermal modeling, and FEA to validate hardware designs.
- Proficiency with common laboratory equipment for measuring and analyzing electronic circuits.
- Familiarity with driveline control systems (transfer case, suspension) and their integration within vehicle architecture.
- Familiarity with Battery Management Systems (BMS) and their integration within vehicle architecture.
- Understanding of ASPICE 4.0 hardware engineering (HWE) design concepts and process requirements.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deliverables across concurrent projects.
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related 4-year technical degree with equivalent industry experience.
- 2 years of experience in an automotive ECU design and development environment.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in driveline control, suspension control, or BMS design.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods in an industrial lab environment. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires dexterity for operating computers and lab equipment.
- Travel: Domestic and international travel may be required (up to 10%) to support project development.
- Work Environment: Some remote work allowed, but physical presence in the office/lab is required when duties demand it.
