About the role

This position is responsible for the accurate and timely testing of consumer products, reporting data, and writing technical reports. The objective is to support technical staff by providing timely and accurate test results and information.

Responsibilities

  • Access the latest revisions of standards, protocols, and test methods, with direction.
  • Evaluate products submitted for testing for quality and safety issues, with direction from senior staff in a limited scope.
  • Prepare a variety of samples for testing using prescribed testing methods and standards.
  • Conduct testing or analyze consumer products for basic bench analysis and limited analytical instrumentation using prescribed methods and standards.
  • Use and verify test equipment and instruments, maintaining records for calibration and quality system integrity with direction.
  • Maintain test equipment, supplies, and lab cleanliness.
  • Accurately record test data per BV Quality guidelines.
  • Assist with department testing in other areas as required.
  • Organize and manage workload to meet laboratory turnaround time and client expectations.
  • Assist in technical and administrative aspects of departmental projects as directed.
  • Accurately compile data, prepare, and review written technical reports in a limited scope.
  • Interface with senior staff for direction on interpretations pertaining to compliance and standards.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues in a limited scope with direction from senior staff.
  • Adhere to Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Quality System requirements.
  • Provide feedback to the department manager regarding systems, processes, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Follow Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services, Inc Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Comply with management systems in accordance with ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
  • Perform other duties as defined by the Manager, department needs, and workload.

Additional Responsibilities for Technician II

  • Evaluate test results data, with direction.
  • Interpret and apply industry standards within a limited scope and with direction.
  • Offer problem resolution for client issues/questions to enhance client satisfaction and improve relations.
  • Conduct verbal and written communications with internal clients regarding administrative and technical issues, with direction.
  • Participate in client meetings/visits with senior staff when appropriate.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues in a limited scope.
  • Consult with other technicians/engineers on various issues, seeking direction as needed.
  • Write, train, implement, and update lab procedures with direction from senior staff.

Additional Responsibilities for Technician III

  • Independently evaluate test results data.
  • Review contract requirements prior to testing to ensure adherence, in a limited scope.
  • Train employees on sample preparation/testing methods and procedures.
  • Interpret and apply industry standards within a limited scope.
  • Organize and monitor workflow of other technicians in the lab.
  • Provide direction and mentoring to other technicians.
  • Assist in the development of test specifications/methods with direction from senior staff.
  • Participate in client visits/meetings when appropriate.
  • Prepare quotes with client services in a limited scope and with direction.
  • Identify and implement improvements in testing quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Develop/update test protocols to include current and correct testing that incorporates client-specific requirements.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Assist with report writing by consolidating data and filling data into protocols.

Qualifications

Technician I

High school diploma or equivalent and some related work experience.

Technician II

2-year technical degree and 6 months of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technician III

2-year technical degree and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay

Compensation range: $20–$23 an hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, education, experience, and skillset.
