About the role

The Hardgoods Regulatory Engineering Risk and Compliance Supervisor position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. You will oversee regulatory compliance for hardgoods across EU and UK markets, including applicable directives, regulations, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical risk assessments (including safety, mechanical, material, and functional risks) throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements to engineering, design, and commercial teams.
  • Partner with business teams to commercialize product through compliance documentation such as Declarations of Conformity, technical files, and risk analyses.
  • Coordinate testing activities with external labs and internal quality and R&D teams.
  • Monitor regulatory changes in the EU/UK and evaluate impacts on current and future products.
  • Support internal audits and external regulatory inspections.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve compliance issues, implement corrective actions, and improve product safety.
  • Train teams on regulatory obligations, product safety principles, and engineering compliance processes.
  • Ensure consistent application of harmonized standards (EN, ISO) and requirements under frameworks such as CE marking, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, EMC, LVD, GPSR, and sector-specific rules.
  • Implement 3M Product Safety standards, processes, and SOPs. Align with broader Product Stewardship standards and processes.
  • Actively advise and influence others on decisions in area(s) of specialty.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Product Safety team members to align work products and build harmonized processes.
  • Ensure strategic objectives for individual direct reports are met. Establishes metrics for yearly performance review calibration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years combined experience in Product Compliance, Product Stewardship, Sustainability, Materials science, Quality, or related Regulatory Affairs role in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Three (3) years of project management experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in people management.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with high-risk applications, global customers, global regulatory bodies, and government agencies.
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to work independently, manage multiple global projects, have a thirst for learning, and drive for tangible results in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders, effectively translating complex concepts into clear, understandable ideas.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation capabilities; confident working across varied audiences including clients, internal teams, executive leadership, and industry events.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and critical thinking skills; ability to interpret regulatory texts and translate complex information for a broad audience.

Benefits

Pay range: $145,676 - $178,049, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
