Hard Lines Merchandising Specialist

About the role

The Hard Lines Merchandising Specialist plays a crucial part in supporting Goodwill Houston's mission by managing the sorting and pricing of donated hard goods. This role involves ensuring that items are categorized correctly, researched for their value, and prepared for sale.

Responsibilities

• Sort and grade donations according to GWH quality guidelines.
• Price items using current GWH baseline pricing guides or utilize digital tools like Google Lens, eBay, and other resell platforms.
• Research and price items following GWH guidelines.
• Ensure designated PPE is used while on duty.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
• Request additional production supplies as needed.
• Routine monitoring of merchandise levels and notifying management when necessary.
• Assist with product rotation and sales floor recovery.
• Greet customers and assist with basic questions.
• Unload and unload donations from donor vehicles.
• Assist with loading and unloading equipment.
• Perform housekeeping duties.
• Assist with safety and security measures.
• Report all work incidents and injuries immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Retail sales experience is preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• Ability to stand, twist, bend, squat, reach, kneel, push, and pull.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally lift/move items up to 100 lbs.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Moderate indoor noise with periodic exposure to outside temperatures.
