Requirements

To be considered for the Instructor Training Academy, applicants must:

  • Love to inspire others.
  • Enjoy learning and have a coach-able mindset.
  • Have excellent athletic potential.
  • Be looking for opportunities for advancement and growth both professionally and personally.
  • Commit to an unpaid training program.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Little or no flight experience.
  • A strong desire to learn and improve their skills.
  • Able to carry a 55lb glider up the sand dune 50 times and run down the dune while teaching students to fly.
  • A full-time commitment from new instructors, and the days can be long.
  • Participation in various training clinics throughout the summer, which are neither paid nor mandatory, but are excellent learning opportunities to increase skills as a pilot and instructor.

Pay

There is no direct compensation during the training period, but participants will earn the opportunity to teach and earn money once certified.

Schedule

The typical workday is about seven hours long, with most of the time spent teaching on the dune. Temperatures in the summer average in the nineties, and the humidity is generally high. Participants are required to be fully committed to the program.
