About the Role

The HANCO EMS Paramedic delivers pre-hospital and trauma care within the scope of their certification level, in compliance with established medical protocols, state, and federal laws. HANCO EMS serves as the primary 911 provider for the local community and offers a wide range of medical transport services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-hospital and trauma care, including scene survey, triage, assessment, extrication, stabilization, treatment, transporting, and communication.
  • Transport patients to the nearest appropriate hospital or medical facility, considering patient preference, proximity, resources, and severity of the situation.
  • Complete all required reports accurately and concisely, ensuring patient confidentiality. Only executive officers may release information to the news media.
  • Accurately record all required information into the Ohio State Reporting program.
  • Restock supplies, retrieve and return all equipment to its appropriate location after each call.
  • Sanitize and disinfect the transport vehicle and equipment as indicated.
  • Participate in debriefing sessions and monthly training events or CEU classes to maintain certification and licensure.
  • Stay updated on pre-hospital procedures and regulations.
  • Perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections, familiarizing yourself with all equipment, including that on the Mobile Intensive Care unit.
  • Become proficient in operating all equipment carried on each response vehicle.
  • Participate in building and grounds maintenance.

Requirements

  • Ohio Division of EMS certification as a Paramedic (or apply for reciprocity if certified in another state).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Healthcare Provider Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license (Ohio license required within 30 days of residency). Must meet BVHS’s company fleet policy, Hanco’s insurance requirements, and other operational standards:
    • Drivers 25+ years old: No more than three moving violations or one accident and one violation in the last three years.
    • Drivers 21–24 years old: No more than two moving violations in the last three years.
    • Drivers 18–20 years old: No moving violations on record.
    • No major convictions in the last five years.
    • All drivers subject to insurance company approval.
  • Positive, service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care and assess patient needs based on growth and development principles.

Additional Certifications (Required within Specified Timeframes)

  • Within 6 months of employment:
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
    • NIMS IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 (National Incident Management System).
    • NIMS ICS 300 and 400.
    • HazMat Awareness Level.
    • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
  • Within 1 year of employment:
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
    • CEVO (Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator course).

Physical Demands

  • Perform physical activities requiring use of arms, legs, and whole-body movement (e.g., climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, sitting for long periods).
  • Ability to lift and maneuver 120+ pounds with assistance and navigate stairs without difficulty.
  • Position is classified as “at risk” for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens (e.g., HBV, HIV).
