About the role
This position will be responsible for the daily receiving, processing, and delivery of all retail merchandise and goods for the Hamley Western Store. Responsible for daily operations of inbound/outbound shipping of all merchandise sold by Western Store and Saddle Shop. Assists Store Manager with all aspects of merchandising, including researching product needs and acquisition, vendor contact and negotiation, ordering, and inventory control.
Responsibilities
- Maintain inventory database for Western Store, receives inventory into inventory/POS system to include pricing and barcoding, price changes, and markdowns, making sure inventory is accurate and up to date.
- Researches and reports variance issues to Store Manager and WRC finance. Utilizes reporting to adjust inventory and maintain inventory integrity.
- Takes the lead as the point person for the quarterly Physical Inventory.
- Stocks all inventory, supplies, goods, and materials for Western Store/Saddle Shop in a safe appropriate manner.
- Distributes mail and deliveries to departments.
- Responsible for all pickups and deliveries that are processed through Western Store (UPS, FedEx, USPS) by enforcing and maintaining a daily delivery log.
- Processes merchandise returns received by mail.
- Partners with Store Manager to meet and communicate with suppliers/vendors, including vendor negotiation, product ordering (writing POs, tracking invoice payments and reconciliation with AP), merchandising stock, tracking credits, setting time scales/delivery dates, canceling back ordered shipments and completing necessary paperwork.
- Communicates with Store Manager and sales staff to maximize ordering based on customer interest and sales. Provides analysis and updates reporting regarding product sales and inventory levels.
- Partners with Store Manager to control stock levels based on forecasts and seasons, and analyzes best sellers, price points, styles, etc., ensuring full sales potential while monitoring slow sellers and acting.
- Develops, tracks, and monitors promotions/markdowns.
- Tracks how stock levels, ordering, and shrinkage affect the overall financial operating budget.
- Handles inquiries promptly and efficiently, treating employees with courtesy and respect.
- Provides relevant training to employees regarding inventory integrity processes.
- Promotes workplace practices that are conducive to business needs – guest/employee safety and security.
- Maintains confidentiality, adherence to applicable policies, laws, codes, ordinances etc.
- Maintains a comprehensive library and or files of appropriate dates related to vendors, merchandising, and inventory control with the ability to provide related reports and feedback as requested.
- Maintains accurate “On Order” records.
- Communicates with SM and website team about upcoming deliveries.
- Promotes internal guest standards by treating employees with courtesy and respect through a positive attitude.

Requirements
- Two (2) years of shipping/receiving, merchandise, and inventory management experience (OR) three (3) years of work experience in a retail customer service environment.
- Highly organized, able to maintain organized stock rooms and work areas.
- High School Diploma or GED or 10 years of experience.
- Demonstrates proficiency with Excel, Outlook, and Word programs.
- Experience with (POS) point of sale operation and experience maintaining price book and inventory systems.
- Effective communication skills- verbally provide instruction, respond to questions, and have exceptional interpersonal skills and abilities.
- Needs to sit, stand, walk for long periods, bend, kneel, ascend/descend ladder; needs to perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers; needs to lift and maneuver bulky items up to 50 lbs.
- Requires a criminal history background check.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of shipping/receiving, merchandise, and inventory management experience OR 3 years of work experience in a retail customer service environment.
- Highly organized, able to maintain organized stock rooms and work areas.
- Proficient with Excel, Outlook, and Word programs.
- Experience with POS point of sale operation and experience maintaining price book and inventory systems.
- Effective communication skills - verbally provide instruction, respond to questions, and have exceptional interpersonal skills and abilities.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods, bend, kneel, ascend/descend ladder; perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers; lift and maneuver bulky items up to 50 lbs.
