Responsibilities

  • Represent BYU and Residence Life in a professional and courteous manner as a live-in employee performing your normal employee and living activities in your employer-provided apartment.

  • Facilitate a pleasant, safe, and clean atmosphere so residents can have positive academic, spiritual, and social development.

  • Participate in extensive community development training to prepare to help communities develop. Learn about the role of the community in student development, natural community progression, developing healthy communities, and facilitating dialogue between individuals.

  • Develop and maintain community standards, a program designed to help residents learn to live in a healthy community. Establish standards for the living community and set goals for community development.

  • Act as a resource, coordinate services, meet with, and help mentor students with problems, concerns, and inappropriate behavior. Educate residents, schedule and attend interviews with students, work closely with area managers and directors to resolve student behavioral issues.

  • Manage physical needs of residence halls, including coordinating building custodial concerns, conducting regular cleanliness inspections, and responding to emergency situations.

  • Maintain accurate records of day-to-day involvement in the hall and with residents, submit detailed reports to management in a timely manner, and promote re-occupancy.

Qualifications

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree
  • Housing experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Business experience
