Habimah/CTPC Counselor 2026

About the role

The Baltimore Jewish Community Center (JCC) is seeking counselors for its Arts and Culture department, particularly for the Habimah Arts Camp and Children’s Theatre Production Camp (CTPC).

Responsibilities

• Supervise campers and keep them on schedule, entertained, and safe.
• Work effectively with the camp team to provide age-appropriate camp activities and lead groups of campers in these activities and exercises.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
• Provide daily care for each camper within your supervision, including recognizing personal health needs.
• Ensure campers receive their medications as directed by the Health Care Manager.
• Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with the camp health manager and/or camp director when appropriate.
• Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to the camp director.
• Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
• Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
• Follow safety and security protocols when campers are in public while presenting a positive image of the camp.
• Participate in other JCamps events as needed.
• Participate in training, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees, and special events.
• Additional responsibilities for those who also act as stage managers:
• Attend all production meetings, including preproduction, during, and post production.
• Manage rehearsals under the Director’s supervision and guidance.
• Command a rehearsal when needed to do so, but to remain patient and ever inclusive to all students as per the JCC and CTPC values.
• Sends out rehearsal reports to the creative team and alerts the team when there is something that needs to be addressed immediately.
• Initiates setup/teardown rehearsal space, record blocking, reset props, calls lights, sound, and backstage assignments during tech and shows.
• Responsible for seeing that the event is executed within the vision of all artists involved.
• Calls the show and oversees the cast and crew during the run of the event.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the director.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Several years of experience as camp counselors or other related experience with children ages 6-13.
• Strong organization, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to be flexible.
• Comfortable with Jewish culture.
• Experience or interest in performing and/or visual arts.
• Stage management candidates must have 1+ years in stage management or qualifying comparable experience.

Qualifications

• Graduating high school in 2026, in college, or a college grad.
• High energy and interaction with staff as well as with members, other agency staff, community leaders, and outside partners, vendors, others.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Benefits

JCC Membership: Upon completion of orientation and successful summer employment, summer hires will be given a JCC membership to utilize the JCC facilities through December 31st, 2026. All full-time summer hires receive one child free to attend JCamps. The second child at 50% off. Restrictions apply.

Pay

Salary Scale Range: $2,800-3,250+; dependent on role (Co-Counselor or Senior Counselor), experience, and seniority.

Schedule

Hours are from 8:00AM-4:45 PM daily, preferred entire camp commitment from June 22nd – August 14th. Additional options for early drop off and late pickup are available for additional compensation. Extension with precamp and post camp weeks are also available.
