H V A C Technician II

Position Summary

Installs heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment for conformance to safety laws and regulations and approved plans and specifications. Performs installation, maintenance, repair, and retrofit of HVAC systems for the University's facilities, including monitoring HVAC systems operations and assuring routine preventive maintenance; including working with electrical systems and/or components. Performs special projects such as installation of HVAC systems for offices, and other facilities. Responsible for HVAC Control Room system and University-wide refrigerant recovery, and recycling compliance. Performs upgrades to building systems. Responsible for the University's HVAC installations, as necessary. Operates and utilizes energy management systems. (DESIGO) Building Automation System. Performs all work with adherence to safety procedures and code specifications. Accountable for direct expenses relative to labor, parts, and materials. May orient, train, assign, and check the work of lower-level employees.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Required Qualifications: Education: Associate's Degree in Applied Science (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), equivalent certificate from a trade school, or completion of an equivalent apprenticeship program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience: Three years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of computerized control systems for HVAC and related building systems. Knowledge and skills in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and trace control circuits. Mechanical aptitude and background and good manual dexterity. Applies mastery of skill in area of specialization. Adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet special needs. Ability to braze and install refrigerant piping, evacuate, recharge, and start-up HVAC equipment. Ability to plan and prioritize daily tasks accordingly. Valid driver's license and must comply with the University Driving Policy. Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning HVAC systems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with managers, fellow employees, representatives of other departments, outside consultants, and the public.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand and walk. The employee must regularly sit; use hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must lift and move up to 50 pounds. The noise level for this work environment is usually moderate.
