About the role
Sphera is hiring a Group Vice President, Government to build and lead the company’s government growth strategy while directly driving revenue performance across federal and select state government markets. This is a unique opportunity for a proven builder who combines strategic vision with hands-on sales leadership. The successful candidate will inherit a strong foundation of existing government customers, active opportunities, and market credibility, and will be responsible for transforming that foundation into a scalable, high-growth government business.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategy to significantly expand Sphera’s government business over a three-to-five-year horizon.
- Build a data-driven growth plan supported by market analysis, agency prioritization, addressable market sizing, and investment recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to expand Sphera’s footprint across federal agencies, defense organizations, and select state and local government markets.
- Create and execute account-based growth strategies for priority agencies and programs.
- Personally engage with strategic opportunities and executive stakeholders to advance and close complex deals.
- Build senior-level relationships across agencies including the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), and other priority government organizations.
- Lead opportunity strategy, qualification, pipeline development, forecasting, and deal execution.
- Serve as executive sponsor for key pursuits and strategic customer relationships.
- Assess, build, and evolve the government sales organization to support long-term growth objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop government sales resources, including Strategic Account Managers and Solution Executives.
- Recommend organizational design, hiring priorities, territory strategies, and resource investments needed to achieve growth objectives.
- Establish operating cadence, performance metrics, accountability structures, and best practices.
- Develop a comprehensive government go-to-market strategy aligned to Sphera’s broader corporate objectives.
- Evaluate market trends, procurement dynamics, budget priorities, and competitive positioning to guide investment decisions.
- Build strategic partnerships, channel relationships, and teaming agreements that enhance market access and growth potential.
- Represent Sphera at industry events, conferences, and government forums to strengthen market presence and generate new opportunities.
- Establish forecasting discipline, pipeline management processes, account segmentation, and performance measurement frameworks.
- Implement scalable sales methodologies and operating processes that support predictable growth.
- Provide regular business reviews and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
- Monitor progress against revenue, pipeline, market penetration, and organizational development objectives.
Requirements
- 15+ years of progressive experience in enterprise software, SaaS, technology, or solutions sales, with significant focus on federal government customers.
- Proven track record of consistently achieving and exceeding multi-million-dollar annual revenue quotas within complex government sales environments.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing growth strategies that have materially increased revenue, market share, or business scale within federal, defense, or public sector markets.
- Experience building, transforming, or scaling a government sales organization, including establishing go-to-market strategy, operating processes, and team structures.
- Deep understanding of federal procurement processes, contracting vehicles, budgeting cycles, acquisition strategies, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience selling into or supporting agencies within the Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), federal civilian agencies, or related government organizations.
- Proven ability to develop data-driven business cases, market assessments, and long-range growth strategies supported by addressable market analysis and financial modeling.
- Experience leading complex, enterprise-level sales pursuits involving multiple stakeholders, long sales cycles, and strategic partnerships.
- Demonstrated success building executive-level relationships with government customers, industry partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong experience in pipeline management, forecasting, territory planning, and sales process execution within a disciplined operating environment.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing sales, account management, or business development teams.
Pay
$219,000.00 - $349,000.00 + Eligible for Variable Compensation Plan
