About the role
The Gun Vault Specialist is responsible for backroom maintenance of all processes pertaining to firearms, ensuring safe handling and adherence to all company, state, and federal firearms regulations. This role involves acquiring and disposing of firearms, maintaining the integrity of ATF-required ARMS systems, and ensuring accurate firearms inventory. Additionally, the specialist provides counter sales and customer service for firearms and other hunting merchandise.
Responsibilities
- Physically and systematically receive/acquire incoming firearms using ARMS systems by close of business each day.
- Verify gun accuracy to/from steel of gun to box, to receiving documents and manifests.
- Dispose of firearms shipped/transferred to licensed dealers or stores, and verify disposition data fed from the Electronic 4473 to ARMS by close of business each day.
- Conduct monthly firearms audits.
- Ensure proper completion of ATF-required forms, applicable state forms for background checks, and certify/screen all potential firearm transfers for legality.
- Comply with waiting periods or other state requirements and prevent straw purchases.
- Participate in ongoing training, including firearms and shooting product information, systems training, compliance-related training, and selling skills/techniques.
- Safely acquire and dispose of firearms using company protocols, complete forms accurately, store/locate/clean/prepare firearms for retail sale, and replenish firearms to the sales floor.
- Properly package and ship firearms in accordance with federal/state laws and company policy.
- Safely check/clear firearms received by customers or via shipment, and mount accessories/optics to firearms.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and well-stocked work area.
- Provide world-class customer service, assisting customers in making buying decisions by identifying needs and making product recommendations.
- Promote programs such as CLUB membership, VOC, and In-Store Pickup.
- Demonstrate products to customers.
- Organize and maintain firearms within the retail store for sales at the gun counter, fine gun room/gun library, and gun vault.
- Maintain visual standards, including restocking, remerchandising, and cleaning fixtures.
- Maintain cleanliness standards within the department and back room, including proper facing of firearms tags and performing opening/closing duties.
- Set and maintain all ads related to firearms, ensure knowledge of advertised sales, and maintain pricing and signing.
- Replenish product on shelves as required per merchandising guidelines.
- Assist with seasonal floor merchandise moves.
- Respond promptly to all ATF or state firearm trace requests.
- Assist with training store outfitters as requested by the GM or Ops Support Reg. Mgr.
- Remain a product "expert" through ongoing product knowledge training.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in retail.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be able to legally own and possess firearms under federal and state law.
Skills
- Ability to understand, recall, and follow complex compliance regulations and work with highly confidential information.
- Customer service and sales of firearms and other hunting merchandise.
- Completion of 4473 and state paperwork.
- Knowledge of GCA, ARMS, acquisitions, and dispositions of firearms.
- Expertise in firearms and ammunition.
- Knowledge of ATF and state regulations for firearms and ammunition.
- Experience in inventory control.
- Ability to safely handle firearms.
- Understanding of retail and computer systems.
- Ability to handle and stock merchandise.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly walks, stands, lifts up to 50 lbs, and/or performs computer work.
