About the role

Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space. Our missions have direct impact to global security, such as missile warning and Earth observation. Our team is curious, bold, and innovative; we take risks, explore new techniques and technologies, influence change by challenging the status quo, and take pride in seeing our satellites launch knowing each of us contributed to that success. The Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (GNC) Engineering Team delivers the GNC subsystem for programs and/or constellations, performing subsystem/system level analysis to ensure requirements compliance, selecting sensors and actuators, and developing and verifying Flight Control Software (FCSW). Engineers in the GNC group are involved throughout the entire program lifecycle, providing mission and system design inputs, critical analysis products, software/algorithm development, support to satellite integration and test (I&T), and on‑console support for on‑orbit operations. As a Lead/Senior GNC Engineer you will serve as the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) for the GNC subsystem, potentially overseeing a single program or a portfolio as the GNC focal. You will act as a technical leader, decomposing complex work, interfacing across engineering and manufacturing teams, reporting up program/functional management chains, and providing guidance and mentorship to others. This position’s internal job code is Guidance, Nav & Controls Engr., and the team is currently hiring for level 3/4.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the GNC subsystem (hardware, software, and analysis) for a satellite program
  • Perform GNC subsystem design, analysis, software development, and component selection to meet program requirements
  • Manage the development of GNC products within the constraints of program cost and schedule
  • Report technical execution progress to program and company leadership, and track/mitigate risk
  • Interface with other satellite subsystems as well as systems engineering and program management to ensure system‑level performance
  • Provide technical leadership of a team of GNC engineers in support of a program, including decomposition and delegation of tasks

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 3+ years’ experience with GNC fundamentals
  • 1+ years’ of spacecraft system level experience
  • 1+ years’ experience collaborating with other engineering subsystems and program leadership
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required); a final U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance is required post‑start
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements (i.e., be a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62)

Qualifications

  • Level 4: Bachelor's degree and 9 or more years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
