Guest Substitute Teacher Program - Fall 2026

Located just north of Pittsburgh, it is the largest suburban school district in Allegheny County, with an average annual enrollment of 8,500 students.
About the role
The Guest Substitute Teacher Program allows individuals without a Pennsylvania Instructional I teacher's certification to serve as substitute teachers in the district.
Responsibilities
- Monitor student behavior
- Keep students on-track with assignments left by the teacher via paper material or virtual portal
- Assist with other day-to-day functions outside of the classroom as needed
- Take attendance for each class period
- Report all necessary information to the primary teacher
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree is required; candidates without one will not be considered
- Clearances required to work in a Pennsylvania Public School:
- Act 34 – PA Criminal History
- Act 114 – FBI Fingerprinting
- Act 126 – Mandated Reporter Training
- Act 151 – Child Abuse History
- Act 168 – Sexual Misconduct and Disclosure Form
- Emergency Permit (obtained after mandatory training with AIU)
- If you already have these clearances, they must be within one (1) year of the hire date
Schedule
As a guest substitute teacher, you can create a flexible schedule of your choosing.
Pay
Compensation for a Guest Substitute Teacher is $120.00 per day.
Important Dates
- Virtual Q&A meeting: September 15, 2026, from 10:30am to 11:30am
- Mandatory in-person orientation: September 29, 2026, from 11am to 3:30pm at the North Allegheny Central Administration office
