Guest Services Attendant - Sunset Zoo

Starting salary range: $17.29 - $20.75/hour, depending on qualifications.

About the role

The Guest Services Attendant is an essential part of the team and contributes to the overall mission of the division. They are often the first line of contact with guests, providing friendly, accurate, and professional guidance while assisting with questions. This position requires daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday availability.

Responsibilities

• Perform front-desk duties at the gift store; assist customers and maintain the appearance of guest services-related locations.
• Greet and engage with guests/public, assisting with questions in a warm, professional, efficient, and accurate manner.
• Educate guests about the division’s mission and related topics, including exhibits, conservation, theater, outdoor terrace and trail, membership, gift store products, concession products, rental inquiries, promotions, events, and education programs.
• Answer a multi-line phone system, route calls, and follow through with questions in a timely manner.
• Operate a cash drawer and credit card machine, including accurate money collection and change.
• Promote and educate guests about the value of the membership program.
• Process admissions, create receipts, balance the cash register, and prepare applicable reports and daily deposits.
• Maintain the appearance of the gift store and/or concession stand (if applicable) through cleaning, staging, restocking, and adhering to food safety guidelines.
• Attend meetings and training sessions.
• Assist with events, rentals, and education programs, including setup, teardown, and trash removal.
• Provide support for staff with small projects.
• Manage stress when interacting with potentially irate or defensive customers.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures in all duties.
• Perform work duties during daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Natural Sciences, History, or a related field (preferred).
• One to three years of experience in cash handling and customer service.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.

Schedule

Weekdays, weekends, and special events. Variable hours between 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
