Job Description/Summary

This Skilled Laborer position is held within the Guardrail Division of Curtis Contracting, Inc. Under close supervision, a skilled laborer performs traffic control duties, concrete preparation, and guardrail installation duties including all safety regulations and procedures. Work is performed outdoors at construction sites, maintenance facilities and outside environments with exposure to inclement weather. Moderate physical demands; strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Knowledge and practical application to operate mini excavators, skid steers, front end loaders and familiar with some aspects of heavy equipment operation.
  • Traffic control techniques.
  • OSHA safety rules and regulations, and safety standards in hazardous traffic environments.
  • Federal and state safety laws and regulations.
  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of small construction equipment as well as miscellaneous hand held tools according to standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Following safe work practices.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Following verbal and written instructions.

About the Role

Curtis Contracting, Inc. (CCI) is a Class “A” contractor prequalified with VDOT and has been in business since 1985. The company is organized into multiple divisions, including Civil, Heavy Highway, Road & Bridge Maintenance, and Federal.

Skills

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Operational knowledge of mini excavators, skid steers, front end loaders.
  • Understanding of traffic control techniques.
  • Compliance with OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety laws and regulations.
  • Ability to operate and maintain small construction equipment safely.
  • Strong adherence to safety protocols.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least 2 years of related experience in construction or similar field.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of traffic control and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Schedule
