Guardianship Specialist I
About the role
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Guardianship Specialist I to join our team. This role involves assessing individuals needing guardianship, exploring alternatives, and providing oversight of their care. The position requires a Bachelor's degree, 2 years of professional case management experience, and certification by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC).
Responsibilities
- Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule.
- Provides on-call coverage outside of regular business hours.
- Assesses the need for guardianship and explores alternatives.
- Coordinates all aspects of a person under guardianship’s life.
- Visits the person monthly and arranges for necessary services.
- Maintains professional relationships with court staff, agency attorneys, and other legal staff.
- Communicates with legal services to determine the best course of action.
- Attends court hearings and provides professional testimony.
- Manages the estate and/or financial affairs of the person under guardianship when applicable.
- Documents monthly status contacts and all facts and events related to the people under guardianship.
- Develops plans of services and various correspondences.
- Maintains professional and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicates with the aging population and persons with disabilities.
- Prepares legal documents under the direction of the regional attorneys.
- Tests and passes the FBI-based criminal fingerprint check through the JBCC.
Requirements
- A valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle, passenger or cargo load.
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working with federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and rules in the State of Texas.
- A minimum of 2 years’ professional case management experience.
- A minimum of two years’ work experience in interpretation or analysis of state or federal regulations.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 75%.
- Ability to work on-call and outside of regular business hours, including nights and weekends.
- Passes the FBI-based criminal fingerprint check through the JBCC.
- Pays for the exam and receives reimbursement for the JBCC certification exam.
- Pays for fingerprinting and receives reimbursement for the guardianship certification.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of federal and state law, regulations, policies, and rules relating to guardianship in the State of Texas.
- Knowledge of Texas Health and Human Services policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of community services and resources for people under guardianship.
- Skilled in working directly with, and knowledge of community services and resources.
- Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicates and works with the aging population and persons with disabilities.
- Communicates and writes effectively, both verbally and in writing, complex information to a variety of individuals or groups.
- Develops professional reports and/or presentations utilizing Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint.
- Prepares legal documents under the direction of the regional attorneys.
- Testifies in court on behalf of the agency.
- Skilled with operating a computer and other common office equipment.
- Types and uploads data into an on-line computer database on a daily basis.

$4,020.33 - $6,335.66 Monthly
