Guardianship and Elder Law Associate Attorney
About the role
The firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their Guardianship and Elder Law Department. The role involves practicing before the Surrogate’s Court and the Supreme Court, with responsibilities including drafting pleadings, legal research, motion practice, and frequent court appearances.
Responsibilities
- Experience in all phases of litigation, including drafting pleadings, legal research, motion practice, and frequent court appearances.
- Experience with Mental Hygiene Law Article 81 guardianship proceedings, including both contested and uncontested matters.
- Familiarity with Medicaid planning, eligibility, and public benefits advocacy.
- Practice before the Surrogate’s Court and the Supreme Court.
- Effective advocacy on behalf of elderly individuals, individuals with developmental disabilities, and those requiring long-term care planning and public benefits assistance.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate concisely and persuasively.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and personability.
- Flexible and effective prioritization of work tasks.
- Comfortable working with all levels of business professionals, including senior management and colleagues across departments, in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in New York State.
- Years of experience in guardianship, elder law, Medicaid planning, or a related practice area. Preferably 4+ years of experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and effectively prioritize work tasks.
- Comfortable working with all levels of business professionals, including senior management and colleagues across departments, in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule
