GSE Mechanic I

About the role

The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic supports our FRC ASE Depot Site in San Diego, CA. This role involves diagnosing and repairing Ground Support Equipment (GSE), performing maintenance, and providing training to lower grade workers.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair GSE malfunctions
• Perform various field level and limited sustainment maintenance actions
• Advise and train lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex problems
• Inspect and approve completed maintenance actions
• Solve repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical publications
• Use automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends
• Analyze equipment requirements
• Maintain equipment records and documents maintenance actions
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications
• Disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components
• Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories
• Stencil and mark GSE in accordance with technical publications
• Store, handle, label, use, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards and regulations
• Prepare GSE for storage and mobility deployment
• Operate, clean, inspect, and service GSE towing vehicles
• Prepare GSE for dispatch service, including positioning equipment for aircraft maintenance and flying operations
• Practice good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent
• 4 years’ recent experience and/or appropriate training in inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of powered GSE used in support of electronic systems or sub-systems
• Demonstrated knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned tasks
• Ability to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks
• Valid driver's license
• Pre-employment drug screening required
• U.S. Citizenship
• Pass and maintain a Security/SCI Security Clearance
• Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Office applications
• Meet and maintain all base access security requirements

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $44.09 per hour. Plus $7.75 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for Health & Welfare.
