The Group Leader is responsible for leading and supervising a group of children in before/after school and summer programs, maintaining the environment, and assisting the program coordinator with daily tasks. This role involves implementing engaging activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment, and fostering positive relationships with children, parents, and program staff. The Group Leader plays a key role in the daily operations of the program and contributes to the overall success of the program's objectives. Activity Planning and ImplementationPlan and execute a variety of educational, recreational, and enrichment activities for children in the programAdapt activities to accommodate different age groups and individual needsEnsure that activities are engaging, age-appropriate, and align with the program’s goalsSupervision and SafetySupervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-beingImplement and enforce program rules and procedures to maintain a positive and safe environmentAddress any behavioral issues or conflicts promptly and effectivelyAll YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment. This includes following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents immediately, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and membersParticipant EngagementBuild positive relationships with children and create a supportive, inclusive atmosphereEncourage participation and engagement in activities and provide individualized support as neededFoster a sense of community and teamwork among childrenCommunication and CollaborationCommunicate regularly with the program coordinator regarding children’s participation and progressCollaborate with other staff members, including tutors and coordinators, to ensure cohesive program deliveryProvide feedback and suggestions to improve program activities and operations.Be a positive spokesperson, advocate, supporter, and promoter of all YMCA programs at all timesRecord Keeping and ReportingMaintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and any other relevant informationReport any concerns or incidents to program supervisors in a timely mannerAssist in the preparation of reports and documentation as neededResource ManagementAssist in the setup and cleanup of program materials and spacesEnsure that program resources and supplies are used effectively and reported when replenishments are neededManage and distribute materials and supplies for activitiesTraining and DevelopmentParticipate in required training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledgeParticipate in monthly staff meetingsSupport and mentor new or less experienced staff members as needed Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required; EDU 119 preferred, BSACPrior experience working with children in a group setting is preferredKnowledgeUnderstanding of child development principles and best practices for working with childrenKnowledge of program safety and behavior management techniquesFamiliarity with age-appropriate activities and educational materialsSkillsStrong organizational and time-management skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to plan and implement engaging and educational activitiesProficiency in basic computer skills (e.g., email, word processing)AbilitiesAbility to manage a group of children and ensure their safety and well-beingAbility to adapt activities and approaches to meet the needs of diverse participantsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to address conflicts or issues effectivelyAbility to work collaboratively with other staff members and program stakeholdersPersonal AttributesEnthusiastic and positive attitude towards working with childrenPatience, empathy, and a strong commitment to the well-being and development of childrenReliable and punctual with a strong work ethicAbility to create a fun and supportive Employee Assistance ProgramRetirement Contribution USD $13.00 - USD $13.00 /Hr.
