Group Leader (Community Programs Manager 4)

About the role

The Community Partnerships Office (CPO) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks a Group Leader to manage and lead the office in advancing LANL as a premier national security science laboratory through community partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise all Community Outreach professionals and activities
• Serve on the management team of the Community Partnerships Division
• Design, develop, and implement programs and projects to address regional needs and accomplish institutional economic development, education, and community giving objectives identified in the M&O contract
• Manage day-to-day operations including budgeting, resource management and program execution
• Provide leadership, vision, strategic and tactical planning, and management of community outreach professionals
• Work collaboratively with teams and diverse constituencies to achieve goals
• Build trusted relationships with local communities
• Enforce Laboratory standards, policies, and procedures for safety and security

Requirements

• Demonstrated career path of progressive leadership and management experience in community relations and outreach including human and financial resources, strategic planning, and operations
• Demonstrated consistent success in selecting highly qualified staff and developing a cohesive team of professionals
• A management approach that is accessible, inclusive, collaborative, and empowering
• Demonstrated experience in day-to-day management, including but not limited to managing headcount, forecasting budgets associated with the group, directing assignments, employee hiring and onboarding processes, providing continuous performance management and feedback to further develop staff including annual performance discussions
• Demonstrated experience implementing and evaluating community program initiatives in the areas of economic development, education, workforce development, and philanthropy/nonprofits
• Excellent written and oral communication skills including relationship building skills and a strong record of technical presentation delivery to diverse audiences
• Demonstrated strong record of community involvement and partnership building

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience
• Education, science, or closely related field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience
• Knowledge of New Mexico and national economic development, educational outreach, workforce development, and community giving methodologies, issues, best practices, funding sources, networks, initiatives and leadership
• Knowledge of educational, economic development, workforce development, and philanthropy research
• Knowledge of the work and accomplishments of Los Alamos National Laboratory
• Obtain a Q clearance

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field required (advanced degree preferred)
