Group Exercise Instructor (TEMPORARY)

Responsibilities

• Designs, educates, and instructs a group of participants of all fitness levels in a variety of group exercise formats.
• Maintains a safe and effective group fitness class by providing current knowledge, certifications, and necessary specialized skills.
• Enjoys motivating and communicating with participants and enjoys flexibility to sub classes as needed.
• Arrives early to each class to properly prep, set-up, and greet participants.
• Meets participants before and after class to answer questions.
• Records attendance numbers for each class.
• Reports and logs equipment in need of repair.
• Attends mandatory meetings every semester.

Requirements

• Provides a fun and safe workout through one or more specialty group exercise classes.
• Educates participants concerning safe exercise techniques with ability to provide immediate modifications.
• Acquaints new participants with class procedures.
• Maintains a desire for continuing technical improvement and continuing education.
• Excellent communication and motivational skills.
• Recognizes potentially harmful situations that may lead to injuries and takes appropriate actions.
• Obtains substitutes as needed.

Qualifications

• A nationally recognized group exercise certification such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, or CSCS.
• Current CPR certification.
• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous group exercise teaching experience.
• One or more years of experience instructing group exercise.
• Fitness, exercise science, or health-related degree.
• Previous experience in a University setting.
• Ability to teach multiple group exercise formats.
