Group Exercise Instructor - Pilates/Yoga/WERQ/Zumba

General Description

This position administers group exercise classes under the direction of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation. Group Exercise Instructors lead safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes, providing demonstrations of proper form and technique, exercise modifications, and progressions.

Job Functions

• Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
• Be professional and motivate class participants
• Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, including warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
• Demonstrate modifications of intensity and impact
• Encourage and motivate participants to work at their own pace
• Use proper cueing (visual, corrective, and motivational)
• File all necessary records with the Recreation department
• Act as spokesperson to the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation in case of emergencies
• Inform the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation of pertinent information
• Perform all first aid duties in case of an emergency
• Perform other related job duties as required

Qualifications And Competencies

• Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles
• Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm
• Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of group fitness
• Understanding of applicable emergency medical response training and certification requirements
