Group Exercise Instructor - Pilates/Yoga/WERQ/Zumba
General Description
This position administers group exercise classes under the direction of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation. Group Exercise Instructors lead safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes, providing demonstrations of proper form and technique, exercise modifications, and progressions.
Job Functions
- Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
- Be professional and motivate class participants
- Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, including warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
- Demonstrate modifications of intensity and impact
- Encourage and motivate participants to work at their own pace
- Use proper cueing (visual, corrective, and motivational)
- File all necessary records with the Recreation department
- Act as spokesperson to the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation in case of emergencies
- Inform the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation of pertinent information
- Perform all first aid duties in case of an emergency
- Perform other related job duties as required
Qualifications And Competencies
- Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles
- Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm
- Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of group fitness
- Understanding of applicable emergency medical response training and certification requirements
