Group Exercise Instructor

Part-time, rotating shift position with Loyola Medicine, a nationally ranked academic, quaternary care system based in Chicago's western suburbs.

About the role

The Group Exercise Instructor builds program activities and provides group exercise instruction to members and non-members of all fitness levels in accordance with safe exercise guidelines.

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes as directed by the Fitness Manager to accomplish the Center’s mission and goals.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the Center.
• Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their health and wellness goals.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records and plans new classes each quarterly session.
• Follows center policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
• Attends staff meetings and training.
• Assesses each class to determine individual ability to follow instructions, adjusts workouts to various skill levels, and offers exercise options frequently.
• Changes music and movements frequently to keep classes engaging and encourage member retention.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (required). Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science (preferred).
• Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes.
• Personal training or group exercise instructor certification through an accredited agency such as ACE, AFAA, NETA, NASM, and/or a specialized certification such as Les Mills, Zumba, Pound, Barre, or related certification.

Pay

$18.16 - $28.14 per hour. Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
