About the role
The Group Exercise Instructor leads classes and provides general fitness and health education to participants under the direction of the Program/Senior Program Director.
Responsibilities
- Fulfill confirmed seasonal teaching schedule or arrange substitutes as needed.
- Maintain class attendance above 8 participants to remain on the schedule.
- Begin and end classes on time; be available to answer participant questions.
- Organize and clean studio equipment; report facility or equipment issues, unsafe conditions, or feedback to supervisor.
- Stay current with industry trends by attending trainings and developing up-to-date knowledge in your discipline.
- Maintain required Continuing Education Credits (CECs) to keep certifications current; expired certifications will result in removal from the schedule.
- Notify supervisor 24 hours in advance of expected absences and arrange substitutes as far in advance as possible.
- Substitute classes for other instructors when needed.
- Contact Group Exercise Coordinator, Fitness Director, Wellness Director, or Manager on Duty for any problems; instructors are not permitted to cancel class.
- Become familiar with other family YMCA programs, membership policies, and general information.
- Attend staff meetings; missing two in a row may result in disciplinary action.
- Support Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Ensuring a positive and enjoyable learning experience for all class participants. Success is measured by class popularity, size, and the number of participants achieving their individual goals.
