About the Role
The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members in a group environment through pre-arranged exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength, and endurance while ensuring member safety. They will also educate members on various aspects of fitness.
Responsibilities
- Pre-class Preparation:
- Arrive 10–15 minutes early to interact with members, answer questions, and assess fitness progress.
- Wear appropriate fitness attire (preferably Gold’s Gym branded) that allows participants to see proper form.
- Prepare and test music and equipment (microphones, etc.) before class.
- Avoid music with offensive language.
- During Class:
- Introduce yourself and the class format.
- Assess first-time participants’ fitness levels discreetly.
- Provide clear verbal instructions and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and fun.
- Monitor participants’ form and offer modifications for different fitness levels.
- Create a motivational environment.
- After Class:
- Return music and equipment to proper storage.
- Ensure the room is tidy for the next class.
- Address participant questions and solicit feedback.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Start and end classes on time, adjusting flow as needed.
- Follow closing procedures if teaching the last class of the day.
- Arrange substitutes if unable to teach and notify the Group Exercise Director.
- Attend required staff meetings and follow time recording procedures.
- Complete incident/witness reports for accidents.
- Maintain a professional attitude and promote Gold’s Gym and GGX.
Requirements
- Minimum of six months teaching in a group exercise format.
- Knowledge of safe exercise techniques, group exercise principles, and basic physiology.
- Ability to perform a variety of exercise routines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting audio equipment.
- Specialized certifications (e.g., Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump) require verifiable proof of education.
- Group fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM).
- Current CPR certification and basic first aid training.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift light weights, bend, squat, jump, run, reach, walk, hop, spin, and kick.
