About the role
The Group Exercise Class Instructor plays a crucial role under the leadership of the Membership/Wellness Director at the YMCA of Catawba Valley. The position requires adherence to YMCA standards and policies, as well as the YMCA's mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Design and prepare class routines that meet all necessary components and safety guidelines.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Complete all required education and training, keeping certifications current and uploading to appropriate systems.
- Record class attendance in Group Ex Pro immediately after each class.
- Follow procedures for securing substitutes and ensuring a smooth transition between classes.
- Start and end classes on time, ensuring a safe and seamless transition.
- Maintain equipment and keep the group exercise area neat and clean.
- Ensure safety by reporting equipment in need of repair and enforcing class guidelines.
- Participate in the Branch Annual Giving Campaign and support special events, programs, and member promotions.
- Communicate information about special programs, events, and promotions to members and prospective members.
- Understand and communicate branch emergency procedures to members as necessary.
- Support the mission, vision, and direction of the YMCA of Catawba Valley.
- Engage members with high levels of encouragement and support.
- Communicate the YMCA’s values and mission.
- Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, including the Dress Code, Computer Usage, and Code of Conduct.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive environment by following YMCA policies related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns or incidents, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.
- Personal commitment to the YMCA cause and mission.
Requirements
- YMCA Instructor certification or equivalent nationally recognized aerobic/fitness organization certification.
- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate and engage positively with staff and members.
- Proven team player.
