About the role

At Atlantic Health, our Groundskeepers perform routine and complex landscape maintenance across our facilities and sites of care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex landscape maintenance duties, including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, and irrigation system upkeep.
  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, snow throwers, chain saws, and utility vehicles.
  • Plant and care for flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns in accordance with seasonal schedules and facility standards.
  • Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in accordance with safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Remove litter and debris from outdoor areas, including parking lots, sidewalks, courtyards, and walkways.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of landscaping projects and exterior improvements.
  • Clear snow and ice from walkways, stairs, and entrances using snow blowers, shovels, or de-icing agents as needed.
  • Ensure safe and code-compliant use of all groundskeeping chemicals and equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repair of grounds equipment and report issues to supervisor.
  • Inspect assigned areas regularly to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Respond to work orders, emergencies, and on-call duties as required.
  • Complete work orders for repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections.
  • Collaborate with contractors and other trades to coordinate work.
  • Respond to emergency calls outside of regular work hours when required.
  • Provide guidance and training to Groundskeeper I staff or temporary workers when required.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Engineering and other trades (plumbing, electrical) to support integrated projects.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Engineering and other departments to support special events or emergency response efforts.
  • Maintain logs and records related to groundskeeping & snow removal activities, equipment usage, and chemical applications.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant groundskeeping certifications preferred (e.g., grounds apprenticeship).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the groundskeeping trade.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to groundskeeping.
  • Expert knowledge of groundskeeper techniques, materials, and tools.
  • Knowledge and skilled in the use of CMMS.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10/30 (Preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license (Required)

About The Team

Atlantic Health System’s Environmental Service Department ensures the cleanest and safest health care environment for all team members, patients, and visitors. The team is responsible for cleaning and disinfection of common areas, outpatient areas, procedural areas, and patient rooms, including bathrooms, furniture, carpet/hard surface floors, vents, electronics, and patient equipment. Using sanitizing processes of the highest quality required by multiple regulatory agencies, the department collaborates with Atlantic Health System Infection Prevention and Quality Departments to maintain consistent alignment across all sites.
