Groundskeeper II

Montana Technological University seeks a full-time Groundskeeper II.

About the role

This position involves performing all categories of grounds landscaping, turf maintenance, snow removal, and irrigation sprinkler repairs, preferably in large commercial-type settings.

Responsibilities

• General campus grounds cleaning and maintenance
• Snow removal and sanding of sidewalks and streets
• Fertilizing, mowing, weed eating, watering, and maintaining sprinkler systems
• Turf maintenance, pruning, planting, weeding, aerating, and power raking
• Blowing out sprinkler systems and trash removal
• Keeping all equipment in good running condition for each season
• Moving office furniture and equipment
• Graduation set-up and yearly plant-in for campus
• Assisting in directing the work of student assistants
• Taking the lead of the Grounds crew in the absence of the Grounds Manager

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of pest management practices and procedures, including weed management
• Required to obtain a Pesticide license for #55 Regulatory Weeds from the Montana Department of Agriculture within 4 months of hire; must maintain the license annually
• Two or more years of experience in grounds landscaping, turf maintenance, snow removal, and irrigation sprinkler repairs

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds construction and care
• Experience operating grounds maintenance and construction equipment and tools
• One year or more of gardening and groundskeeping duties
• Experience maintaining large grounds
• Experience with underground irrigation sprinkler repairs, adjustments, and replacement

Physical Demands

• Lift up to 50 pounds (e.g., ice melt, fertilizer, groundskeeping materials)
• May be required to lift up to 75 pounds (e.g., mailroom packages, furniture)
• May be required to lift over 150 pounds with assistance
• Daily movement: walking long distances across campus, bending, kneeling, and working outside in all weather conditions
