Job Summary Performs responsible semiskilled work in the maintenance of the municipal golf course; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Preparing, maintaining, and mowing the golf course; maintaining course facilities.Mows fairways, roughs, and greens; changes pin location; rakes sand traps.Top dresses and seeds greens as needed.Assists with grounds improvement; lays sod; repairs cart paths and other facilities.Trims and prunes trees; trims hedges.Edges around sand traps.To maintain landscaping in an attractive and aesthetic, pleasing manner, keeping grounds, rights-of-way, and medians free of weeds and pests utilizing recognized tools of the landscape maintenance tradeWeeds landscaped areas by hand, utilizing mechanical methods such as a scuffle hoe, string trimmer or roto-tiller oRequires the use of hand sprayers, backpack sprayers, electric powered sprayers, and cyclone and drop spreaders.Applies landscape mulch to landscape beds using hand tools, wheelbarrows, small tractors with a loader attachment, dump trailers, and small dump trucks.Prunes trees and palms from the ground using gas powered or hand pruning or chain saw tools, prunes shrubs and ground covers using hand tools or gas-powered hedge shearsMay require some work from step ladders or extension laddersApplies fertilizer to landscape beds, trees and palmsEdges landscape beds with hand tools or gas powered edgersRemoves trash and dead plants, and replaces plantsCleans practice green; keeps golf course clean and free of debris.Mows, edges, weeds eats and blows off cart paths.Assists with the maintenance and cleaning of general clubhouse and grounds.Conducts Integrated Pest Management (IPM) inspections on a weekly basis and applies proper insecticides and fungicides to control the problemCalculates fertilizer rates and calibrates spreadersProvides written monthly inspection and maintenance reports to inform Supervisor or present and future maintenance needsRemoves unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds, drains, manhole covers, etc., for debris; raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, debris, dirt and trash from streets, sidewalks, parking lots, tunnels, and transporting the trash to designated central collection points on a daily basisPrepares outdoor locations for use by visitors, vendors, and the public as needed by campus operations and, if applicable, painting and marking athletic fields, moving bleachers and seating, and erecting portable goals or other athletic equipmentReplaces and disposes of light bulbs in interior building settings using ladders, lifts, or other toolsPerforms related tasks as required. Supervisory Responsibilities None Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities General knowledge of the methods, materials and practices used in golf course maintenance.General knowledge of the equipment used to maintain a golf course and its safe operation.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, course guests and the public.Ability to operate miscellaneous gas-powered ground maintenance equipmentContributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgroundsSkill in the operation of golf course maintenance equipment.Knowledge of the rules and regulations for applying pesticides safely in a public environmentKnowledge of growth habits of trees, palms, shrubs and ground covers in southwest FloridaAbility to operate safely: small dump trucks, gas powered pole chain saws, chain saws, small chippers, tractors with a front-end loader, skid-steer loaders, small dump trailers, and powered hedge shears.Ability to identify common landscape plants, including trees, palms, shrubs and ground covers used in southwest FloridaAbility to identify the common landscape insects and diseases that infect the plants grown in southwest Florida.Ability to calculate fertilizer rates and calibrate spreaders. Education And Experience A High School Diploma or equivalent; one year of experience performing landscaping, mowing or landscape grounds maintenance Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements Valid Florida Driver’s License required.Positions assigned to Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources are required to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicators Certification within six months of employment Physical And Mental Demands The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.
