Groundskeeper I

About the role

The Groundskeeper I position at Chaminade College Preparatory is responsible for the care, maintenance, and development of lawns, landscape beds, trees, irrigation systems, and general grounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform light-duty maintenance on tractors, riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, chain saws, backpack blowers, sprayers, rakes, shovels, and other small tools.
• Work outdoors and perform tasks regardless of weather conditions.
• Exposure to loud noise, machinery with moving parts, dirt, dust, debris, chemicals, and foul odors.
• Knowledge of and ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools.

Skills and Knowledge Required

• Equipment used in the development and maintenance of lawns, landscape beds, trees, and general grounds.
• Ability to quickly learn proper methods of maintenance, care, and installation of lawns, landscape beds, trees, and general grounds.
• Ability to distinguish between different cleaning materials, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, with the ability to read and understand label information.
• Knowledge of and ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Able to report for work on time and perform duties for an entire workday.
• Able to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
• Able to perform frequent overtime work, which may involve late night or early morning hours.

License Required

Must have a valid unrestricted California driver's license.
