Groundskeeper Assistant
About the role
The Parks & Recreation Department, Parks and Landscape Maintenance Division team is seeking interested applicants to fill a full-time seasonal Groundskeeper Assistant position. The position requires an ability to perform physical labor outdoors during inclement weather.
Responsibilities
- Participate in greenhouse operations, cemetery operations, and general landscaping operations.
- Work outdoors, mowing and weed whipping, weeding, pruning, planting, deadheading, mulching, watering, and doing clean-up of CBJ parks and facility grounds.
- Mow over 1.2 million square feet of turf, propagate, plant, and maintain 14,000 annual flowers each year, and maintain over 82,000 square feet of mulched tree and shrub beds.
Requirements
- If selected for this position, you would be working under the general supervision of the Landscape Maintenance Supervisor and Grounds Crew Leaders.
- Valid Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Qualifications
- Desirable but not required: Education and/or experience in horticulture.
Skills
- Ability to operate various hand tools, power tools, and small equipment (including mowers, blowers, trimmers, chainsaws, etc.).
- Knowledge of gardening/landscaping techniques.

Pay
This position is seasonal, works six months per year, approximately April 1 through September 30. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 3:30PM with a half-hour lunch, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
