Grounds Supervisor

About the role

The Grounds Supervisor provides direct oversight and management of the Grounds staff. The position is essential and involves responding to emergencies, supervising clean-up after severe weather incidents, and supporting critical University events.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and assigns work schedules and other duties to employees
  • Supervises and evaluates Grounds employees' performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Identifies and addresses job-related performance or conduct concerns through coaching, counseling, or other means
  • Regularly and frequently inspects grounds for cleanliness, completed work, needed repairs, and safety compliance
  • Maintains accurate and current inventory of all equipment through regular inspections, storage, and equipment cataloging
  • Communicates daily with key administrative and staff personnel on special events and functions
  • Supports essential University events and activities that often take place on weekends

Requirements

  • Commitment to customer service when working with students, parents, faculty, staff, and guests on campus
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, control, and direct all aspects of Grounds responsibilities for university facilities
  • Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies and weather events or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the University
  • Ability to work within the overall organization of Facilities Operations and work with skilled and unskilled personnel and administrators
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must possess computer application skills in word processing and spreadsheets and can learn and use the work order management system, navigate the Internet, and to communicate via e-mail
  • Must be willing to seek training to enhance or learn new skills
  • Must be able to walk assigned areas and other areas of the campus for an extended period
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and make sound decisions sometimes under stress

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) consecutive years of supervisory experience

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. Additional hours as required.
